Hello!
I’m Janna, but my best friends just call me Banana. I was a graphic designer in a previous life. This included doing print and production work onboard cruise ships, which turned my interest in travel from “passion” to “necessity.” I had an amazing time at sea, until the pandemic took my job away.
I found another company who paid me to play with typography—even in different languages—and then I realized I liked working with actual faces more than typefaces. More on that here.
Now I’m a Flight Attendant based in Washington, D.C., writing about my passions: travel, people, and music. I still play with letterforms whenever I get the chance; I just don’t get paid for that part anymore.
I aim to publish every Monday and Thursday, with a mix of topics from week to week. I have a thing for series. I’m currently working on one called Love at First Listen, about the top songs I instantly connected with. All my travel pieces are here; all my music pieces are here.
I create the artwork for all my writing, list the best stuff for sale here, and share it all on Instagram. (From February 22–June 1, I’m posting 1 word a day of a 100-word memoir, backwards. Follow along! I’ll publish the full piece here once #The100DayProject is completed.)
If you wanna get inside my head, here’s my Spotify.
If you wanna support my art and writing directly, you can leave a tip or buy me a coffee. (Thank you!)
I’m also dusting off my Twitter presence, although I’d rather you just email me (barrett.janna@gmail.com) because I never did catch on to Twitter. Say hi! I love making new friends. :)
