What to Do When Your Ex Writes Songs About You
Step 1: Don’t listen

I’m guessing you’re here because you failed at Step 1. That’s okay; me too. I was trying to save you some heartache. But don’t worry; I have several more tips for navigating the discovery that you’re the subject of a song (or two) by that musician you fell for.
Be flattered.
No matter the lyrics, take this gesture for the immense compliment it is. You impacted this person so much that they decided to express something about you through song.
They spent hundreds of hours crafting those words, putting them to a melody, practicing those instruments, hitting wrong notes, trying different approaches, and recording several takes.
It’s likely they also spent thousands of dollars in the production process. Whatever message they’re communicating, it was that important for them to say it.
And, if this is their first attempt at creating and recording music, you should also be incredibly impressed. That is an astonishing feat. Bravo/brava.
